The destiny of every family
is in the hand of the
woman of the house. God has given women the position of influence in the
family. We as women, we have great influence on our husbands. If a woman
exercises her power of influence with the wisdom of God, she will build
her
home. But if she exercises it with the wisdom of Satan, she will destroy
her
home.
For example, the Shunamite
woman used her godly
wisdom to influence her husband to take care of Elisha, the man of God.
Consequently, she received her long awaited child (2 Kings 4:8-11). On
the
other hand, Jezebel used Satanic wisdom to influence her husband. They
murdered
Naboth and took over his vineyard. For this reason their family was
wiped off
(1 Kings 21:5-15).
How a
Woman Can Build Her Home
Ever before the first woman
was created by God, God
had assigned her a role that she would perform in the home. In Genesis
2:18,
God says, 'I will make him an helpmeet for him.' This
follows
that a woman is to be a suitable helper for her husband if she is to
build her
home.
A woman that neglects this
primary duty and engages
herself in the pursuit of the vanities of this world cannot build her
home. On
the other hand, a woman that competes with her husband in ruling the
family
will tear her home apart.
A woman can build her home in
the following ways:
1. By supporting her husband
in fulfilling
his life's mission, Proverbs 12:4. A virtuous woman will always identify
with
her husband's vision and ministry. She must do everything within her
capacity
to help her husband to succeed in whatever he does.
2. By making the home
conducive for husband
to settle down and plan for the family, Proverbs 21:9,19. God designs
home as a
resting place for man. A woman who wants her husband to be successful
must make
her home heaven on earth for her husband and their children. A man with a
happy
home will be confident enough to face all the obstacles on his way and
overcome
them. If a home is to be heaven on earth, it is in the hand of the wife.
She
must not be contentious wife. Her home should be tidy and orderly.
3. By giving her husband
good and timely
advice. Woman is more sensitive to her surrounding than man. She sees
danger
faster than man. She discerns the nature of man faster than man. This
places
heavy burden on every wife to advise her husband on every issue. The
advice
must be timely. When advising your husband, you must do it at the right
time
with love and humility.
4. By being prudent in
managing the family
finances. The most important thing in home management is money. Without
money,
it will be difficult to build a stable home. Bible even says that money
answers
all things and that whoever does not provide for his household is worse
than an
unbeliever. In spite of this, money is a scarce commodity. Experience
has shown
that good management of family finances can take the family out of
financial
bondage. As a wife always be modest and simple in the way you spend
money.
Don't buy on impulse. List the items you want to buy before you go to
market or
supermarket.
5. By comforting her husband
in time of
trouble, Proverbs 12:8; 16:24. There is time for everything under the
sun.
There are times when a husband is passing through a storm or distress. A
sensitive wife quickly discerns her husband’s mood. A loving wife will
do
everything to comfort her husband and stays with him until the burden
that he’s
carrying disappear.
6. By training her children
to be honest,
hardworking and responsible. The most neglected duty in the home is
child's
training. This is responsible for the high rate of juvenile delinquency
in the
society. It is the duty of a wife to train her children in fear of God.
They
should be taught how to undertake household chores. They should be
taught the
eternal value of honesty and humility.
7. By praying for her
husband and children
regularly. A prayerful wife is the wife that is destined to succeed in
building
a stable and prosperous home. A good wife should always take her family
issue
to the throne of God in regular prayer. This will make her home the
temple of
God. God will therefore provide the needs of the family.
