REASONS FOR MARRIAGE

Do you imagine a woman getting to the market without knowing the materials she wants to purchase? She could commit two principal errors. She either purchases what she does not need at all or she may buy what she does not need at the moment.

The first mistake means she will make is to lose the money she spend while the second mistake she will make is that she will tie down unnecessary the money she could have profitably used now.

You may commit greater mistakes if you pick your future marriage partner without proper knowledge of the reasons for marriage

It is clear from the account of creation that God established marriage before any other institutions in the world. God ordained marriage for some special reasons. Knowing these reasons before picking your marriage partner will help you to have a successful marriage.

Reasons For Marriage

1. Marriage is necessary to meet the needs for man’s fellowship, comfort and joy. God established the first marriage to remove the problem of loneliness experienced by Adam. 
2. Marriage is necessary for man and woman to live a fulfilled life. This is possible through partnership between husband and wife. Men and women are not alike. Husbands and wives are not given competitive roles but complementary roles in the home. God made man and woman to work together to build a happy home. No one can build a happy home without having his work complemented by a partner of opposite sex. 
3. Marriage is necessary for man and woman to carry out their biological duty of bearing and rearing of children. The major command to Adam and Eve is, “Be multiply, and fruitful, and replenish the earth.” This command was also given to Noah after the flood. It is therefore a solemn duty, a duty to God and a duty to society to propagate the race. 
4. Marriage is necessary to help man and woman to live a sanctified life. God created the biological necessities of sex in man and woman. Hence, sex is good and holy. But it could be perverted if this urge is met outside marriage set up. To avoid sex perversion, men and women are advised to marry. 
5. Marriage is necessary because people fall in love. Love is essential to a happy marriage and when people love as they ought, that is a compelling reason for marriage. But falling in love is not enough reason for marriage. To avoid life’s regret or marriage failure other reasons for marriage should be considered.
